Senior Citizen’s pilgrimage to the Mount

Denis Fernandes

80 Senior citizens, the sick, old and the crippled of St John Bosco Church gathered at the school grounds at 7.30 am on 15th September 2008 and were welcomed by Fr. Allwyn our administrator with a hot cup of tea.   The busses left Don Bosco Borivli at 8.15 am with a prayer by Fr. Allwyn invoking our Blessed Mother for guidance and protection.

On our journey, we were served with breakfast and cold drinks.  Reciting our rosary and singing hymns all along the way we reached the Basilica at 10 am well in time for the special mass for the sick and disabled which was to start at 11 am.

His Holiness, Bishop Bosco Penha was the main celebrant for the mass  along with Fr. Allwyn and four priests from the clergy home. In his homily, Bishop Bosco Penha lay stress on the power  God has given each one of us, the power to heal, not only ourselves but also others with our prayers.  He urged the thousands of old and disabled people who were present to pray for the various problems faced by the country in Orissa, Bihar, Kashmir, Karnataka, etc and watch the miracles our prayers can perform in solving the country’s problems, even at this old age.

It was an enriching experience to visit our Lady at the Basilica.  We were all filled with her blessings and peace in our hearts and reached Borivli safely at 2.30 pm.
