Parents of the students in Don Bosco High School, Borivali West are a happy lot in the days of inflation. And it's all due to Brihanmumbai Transport and Electric Supply (BEST) that has started operating on five routes following a request fom the school.

A spate of untoward incidents taking place with the private school busses, and the lack of safety measures followed by them, prompted the school authorities to write to the BEST. "Last vacation, we requested the BEST if they could operate special busses for our school children on a pick-and-drop basis. The authorities responded positively and since June 26, 260 students have already availed of the facility," informs Rossi D'Souza, a teaching staff from Don Bosco School.

The parents of the school students are happy with the new development, as they do not have to worry for their child's safety while travelling to the school. "Earlier, my child travelled by a private vehicle, but now tht the school has started the service, my child has been using the BEST facility," said a parent.

The busses operate on five routes in Borivali and Dahisar. The students are expected to use the smart card for payment of the nominal bus fare. "We have given specific timings, and the bus stops from where the students can board the bus. For convenience of the bus authorities, we have asked a few parents to accompany the students in the bus to guide the drivers," said MC Colvin, Depot Manager, Gorai.
